Doo Financial Futures analyst Lukman Leong said the rupiah has the potential to strengthen against the US dollar as market concerns subside after Trump announced a plan to delay an attack on Iran.

"The rupiah has the potential to strengthen against the US dollar amid easing market concerns after Trump said he would delay an attack on Iran," he told VOI, Tuesday, May 19.

However, he added that the strengthening of the rupiah is expected to be limited because domestic sentiment remains weak and investors are still waiting for the results of the BI RDG which is projected to raise interest rates.

"However, the strengthening may be limited given the still weak domestic sentiment and investor anticipation of the BI RDG which is expected to raise interest rates," he said.

Lukman estimates that the movement of the rupiah on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 will be in the range of Rp17,600-Rp17,700 per US dollar.
