JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works (PU) has accelerated the construction of the Tahap II People's School (SR) in various regions with a target completion date of June 20, 2026.

In the construction process, as many as 59,541 workers have been absorbed and spread across a number of provinces in Indonesia.

Minister PU Dody Hanggodo said that the construction of SR is part of the government's commitment to expanding access to quality education as well as long-term investment in the development of national human resources.

"The construction of this SR is a tangible form of the government's commitment to building superior human resources. We want to ensure that these educational facilities are built quickly and with quality," said Dody as quoted from a written statement, Saturday, May 9.

Based on data on construction implementation as of May 7, 2026, the workforce involved includes field workers, technical personnel, heavy equipment operators, and other supporting personnel.

The PU Ministry assessed that the development of educational infrastructure not only benefits the long-term education sector, but also drives the local economy through the involvement of labor and construction material supply chains.

As the work on the ground accelerates, the progress of the Phase II SR construction also continues to increase.

As of May 7, 2026, the average physical progress has reached 45.91 percent, up from 40.27 percent on May 1, 2026.

Several construction locations recorded significant progress, including Medan City at 64.48 percent, Sragen Regency at 63.22 percent, Bengkulu City at 62.17 percent, Ogan Ilir Regency at 62.07 percent and Makassar City at 62.04 percent.

To ensure that the completion target is achieved according to schedule, the PU Ministry has formed a Speed Task Force (Satgas) involving the Directorate General (Ditjen) of Construction, the Strategic Infrastructure Directorate General as well as various related parties.

Dody also asked all construction service providers and implementing SOEs to ensure that the acceleration steps are optimal at each construction location.

The implementation contract has also been adjusted to the target completion of construction on June 20, 2026.

Various acceleration strategies are being implemented in the field, ranging from the parallel construction of all buildings, the addition of the number of workers according to needs, overtime work to the addition of construction equipment, such as cranes, pile tools, excavators and mobile batching plants.

In addition, adjustments were made to the construction method to speed up the work, including the use of steel structures, metal decks and wire mesh, as well as hollow core slab technology on the floor slab.

SR Phase II is permanently built on an area of 5 hectares to 10 hectares prepared by the local government. Each area is designed to be an integrated education center for elementary, middle and high school levels.

Facilities built include technology-based classrooms, skill laboratories, libraries, digital learning centers, student and teacher dormitories, healthy canteens, clinics, sports fields, extracurricular spaces to green open spaces.

The PU Ministry also continues to encourage the completion of various technical obstacles in the field, ranging from construction access, material mobilization to the readiness of supporting infrastructure, so that all projects can be completed on time and immediately utilized by the community.
