JAKARTA - Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita met with Minister of Finance (Menkeu) Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa at the Ministry of Finance office, Jakarta, today.

Agus explained that in the meeting the two discussed various things related to the manufacturing sector.

"Especially how the domestic industry can contribute more to national economic growth.

"We were both, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Industry, sitting down, we examined various obstacles that may be faced in the field by industrial actors. Well, then find a way out," Agus told reporters, Tuesday, May 5.

In this case, Agus said, one of the focuses of discussion was the provision of stimulus and incentives for the manufacturing sector. Especially, the provision of incentives for electric vehicles or electric vehicles (EV) which ended in December 2025.

"So, the essence of what we discussed was what policies, steps we need to take, the government needs to take, both as a stimulus and as an initiative, so that the growth of manufacturing that will support economic growth can run better and faster," he said.

Even so, Agus could not confirm whether the electric car and motorcycle incentives would actually be given or not. Because, his party can only propose regarding the provision of stimulus.

"We have talked about one of them also about incentives as a stimulus. If the government really gives incentives for electric motorcycles or cars, this is even more relevant," he said.

"If in the past, before there were lessons to be learned, we introduced policies more to the use of electric vehicles in order to reduce emissions. Now there is something more important than that, so that we can reduce the use of fuel, which means we can reduce subsidies," concluded Agus.

To note, the Ministry of Industry has set various requirements for the submission of electric motor subsidies which are regulated in the Minister of Industry Regulation (Permenperin) Number 21 of 2023.

The regulation is a revision of Permenperin Number 6 of 2023 which regulates government assistance guidelines for the purchase of two-wheeled battery-based electric vehicles (KBLBB).

A subsidy of Rp7 million is given for one KTP, which means each individual can only apply for a subsidy once.

The policy reflects the government's support in accelerating the development of electric motors in Indonesia as part of the clean energy transition.

In the 2024 subsidy program, the government allocated 200,000 new electric motor units and 50,000 converted motor units with a total budget of IDR 1.75 trillion.

However, there has been no further confirmation from the government regarding the provision of electric motor incentives to be re-enacted in 2026.
