JAKARTA - The Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) has partnered with Tokopedia and TikTok Shop to encourage micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to upgrade through intellectual property protection (IP), as an effort to maintain business sustainability.

This collaboration was conveyed at the #WaktunyaSTARt #JualanNyaman Special Kartini Day event held at the Ministry of Trade auditorium, Jakarta, Wednesday, April 22.

Deputy Minister of Trade, Dyah Roro Esti Widya Putri said the government continued to provide assistance for MSMEs, including in strengthening product protection.

"We at the Ministry of Trade with three main focuses that we are currently doing, securing the domestic market, its relevance to our domestic MSMEs, especially for those who want to sell their products for the national line, nationally, we have a program that connects between MSMEs and modern retail," said Dyah Roro.

Dyah Roro said that the contribution of MSMEs to the national economy is very large, namely more than 61 percent of the gross domestic product (GDP). In addition, about 64.5 percent of MSMEs in Indonesia are women.

"And what is even more interesting, it turns out that 64.5 percent of existing MSMEs that we see in Indonesia are managed by women," he said.

Meanwhile, Tokopedia and TikTok Shop Senior Director, Vonny Ernita Susamto, said that his party provided free consultation facilities for business actors to strengthen product competitiveness.

The facilities include an Intellectual Property Clinic, a Design Clinic, and a Marketing Clinic that can be used by MSMEs to develop their businesses sustainably.

"If you and your husband also have problems or want to consult for free. For example, about packaging or packaging, or also affiliate marketing, you can get the answer directly through the clinics in front," said Vonny.

Vonny revealed that during the first semester of 2025, Tokopedia and TikTok Shop had processed more than 130,000 reports of intellectual property violations through an integrated protection center.

"The type of report is like imitating products, and taking photos and videos by irresponsible parties," he explained.

Through education and mentoring, continued Vonny, MSMEs are expected to be more aware of the importance of intellectual property ownership.

In addition to increasing consumer confidence, this protection also opens up opportunities for business actors to enter the mall ecosystem on both platforms.

"We hope that through periodic education like today, more sellers can actually become intellectual property holders, and join the mall ecosystem on both platforms. And finally feel more benefits, such as increasing customer confidence, to maintaining business continuity," said Vonny.
