JAKARTA - Human resource development (HRD) is a key factor in encouraging the sustainable growth of the national palm oil industry.
Chairman of the General Association of Indonesian Palm Oil Farmers (Apkasindo) Gulat ME Manurung said that the Plantation Fund Management Agency or BPDP has a strategic role to improve the quality of human resources in the national palm oil sector.
According to him, various BPDP programs in the form of palm oil scholarships and training for farmers have contributed positively to the progress of the palm oil industry.
"I see that one of the key words for the success of Indonesian palm oil to date is the support of BPDP, especially in the HR sector," he said in Jakarta, Thursday, April 9.
Gulat Manurung said that BPDP programs that focus on human resource development are increasingly targeted and targeted.
The implementation of the program is realized through technical training and education as well as support for research and scholarship in the field of oil palm.
He encouraged BPDP to continue to evaluate and improve the program to increase its effectiveness and real impact on the industry.
The evaluation and improvement steps that have been carried out so far have strengthened the position of BPDP as the main locomotive in the development of national palm oil human resources.
Regarding the palm oil farmer training program, he hopes it can be more targeted.
This technical training program for oil palm farmers is important to improve skills, knowledge, and professionalism so that a more productive and sustainable national oil palm industry can be realized.
"I see that the evaluation and improvement have made BPDP a locomotive for Indonesian palm human resources. Palm human resources must be in the forefront, at least equal to the development of the dynamics of palm oil plantation technology. That's why the campuses that are partners for palm human resources must be of quality," he said.
Based on BPDP data, as many as 29,263 training participants and 13,265 participants in education or scholarship programs have participated in the palm oil human resources development program until 2025.
Of the total scholarship recipients, 3,910 students have graduated from various universities that cooperate with BPDP.
The palm oil human resource development program involves 42 universities with a total of 900 training classes held in various palm oil plantation centers.
The program reaches 21 provinces in Indonesia which are the main areas of oil palm plantations.
"This is very extraordinary. I think this is also our way to adjust the needs of palm oil stakeholders related to human resources. So, with 13,265 people, I think this is already on target for the palm oil fund," he concluded.
