Anthony Leong officially registered as a candidate for the General Chair of the Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association (HIPMI) for the period 2026-2029 with the main mission of expanding access to capital for young entrepreneurs, especially in rural areas.
Anthony emphasized that limited access to financing is still a major challenge for business actors, especially in the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) segment.
According to him, the capital support from the banking sector and government policies today is not evenly distributed and tends to be enjoyed more by large-scale business actors.
"I haven't seen any bias, and this must be our HIPMI's role in the future. Don't let those who have access to capital be big businessmen," he told the media, Wednesday, April 8.
According to him, this condition has the potential to hinder the growth of middle entrepreneurs who have an important role in strengthening the national economic structure.
Therefore, he added, HIPMI in the future is expected to become a strategic bridge between business actors and financial institutions to create more inclusive financing access.
"Well, what about the middle entrepreneur? Well this is our joint PR. How the middle entrepreneur also needs to be considered, needs to be a concern. Don't let the middle entrepreneur be like, maybe the business is like a donut. So it's open. Up and down, but this middle entrepreneur is like an open. It is not at all noticed by the government. Well, we have to push it forward," he said.
In addition to access to capital, Anthony also encourages the strengthening of access to collaboration and business networks as part of efforts to increase the capacity and competitiveness of young entrepreneurs.
He assessed that regional entrepreneurs should be encouraged not only to be passive actors, but also to be able to actively participate in the national industrial chain.
According to him, with the HIPMI network which has reached the district and city levels, this organization has great potential to encourage business actors to move up in class, from small to medium to large.
"This is what we have to encourage, how can friends in HIPMI in this area be promoted, so that the workers are not stunted, the workers are dwarfed. Well, this is what we have to encourage in the future," he said.
Anthony emphasized that HIPMI must be strengthened again as a driving engine for the national economy as well as a platform for the struggle of young entrepreneurs, especially in the regions.
In the future, he targets HIPMI to be a strategic partner of the government in encouraging national economic growth, as well as strengthening more equitable distribution of welfare through the empowerment of young entrepreneurs throughout Indonesia.
"Hopefully, with the solidarity with HIPMI friends, we can realize how the distribution of wealth, the distribution of welfare for the community can be more equitable in the future," he concluded.
