Dody explained that this year's community-based infrastructure program reached 15,364 locations throughout Indonesia. In addition, he said, the government also increased the budget allocation for the program from Rp. 4.84 trillion to Rp. 5.48 trillion.
He assessed that the labor-intensive program was an important strategy so that the benefits of development could be directly felt by the community. In addition to producing infrastructure, the scheme also provides direct income for the people involved.
Most of the infrastructure development is focused on the water resources sector. The Acceleration Program for Improving Irrigation Water Management (P3TGAI) is the largest contributor with implementation in around 12,000 locations with a budget of around Rp. 2.7 trillion.
In the connectivity sector, the PU Ministry targets the construction of 118 suspension bridges through the labor-intensive scheme. The project is expected to open access to remote areas while facilitating community economic activities.
Meanwhile, in the settlement sector, community-based infrastructure programs include various activities that target improving the quality of life of residents. These include the development of regional socio-economic infrastructure (PISEW), the provision of community-based drinking water and sanitation (Pamsimas) to environmental sanitation programs and waste management.
