JAKARTA - The Batang-Semarang toll road has an important role in strengthening connectivity in Central Java Province.

The presence of the 75-kilometer stretch has proven to have drastically reduced travel time, transforming a journey that was once exhausting into a much more efficient one.

Previously, drivers had to spend up to 2.5 hours through the North Java Coastal artery (Pantura) which is crowded, now the journey from Batang to Semarang or vice versa can be completed in only about 45 minutes to one hour.

The time efficiency of more than 50 percent is an important catalyst, not only for the mobility of local residents in Kendal, Batang, and Semarang, but also for the national logistics supply chain that crosses Java Island.

Behind the smooth flow of traffic, the Barrier Kalikangkung Toll Gate (GT) plays a vital role.

As the main gateway in the Trans-Java network, Kalikangkung is a traffic control center, especially during crucial times such as Lebaran homecoming or long holidays.

Vice President Corporate Secretary & Legal PT Jasamarga Transjawa Tol (JTT), Ria Marlinda Paallo, explained that the management of operations at this point is the key to road user comfort.

"As one of the main gateways, the Kalikangkung Barrier has a strategic role in supporting traffic arrangements during periods with high mobility."

"We are trying to ensure that the journey of road users remains smooth and safe through adequate infrastructure," said Ria, quoted from a written statement, Saturday, March 7, 2026.

Apart from the logistics aspect, the increasingly close connectivity has begun to feel the impact on the tourism sector.

Quick access to the northern coastal areas in Batang and Kendal to the mountain attractions around Semarang, is now easier to reach by tourists from the west and east.

Ria emphasized that his party was committed to maintaining the quality of services on the section managed by PT Jasamarga Semarang Batang (JSB). According to him, reliable infrastructure is the foundation for regional economic growth.

"We are committed to maintaining the reliability of infrastructure so that the Batang-Semarang Toll Road provides optimal benefits, both for daily mobility and to encourage economic growth and tourism in Central Java," he said.

With the travel time getting shorter, the toll is expected to continue to be able to reduce national logistics costs and provide a sense of security for millions of motorists who pass through every year, especially ahead of the 2026 Lebaran holiday.
