JAKARTA - The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) has spoken out about PT Karunia Alam Segar as the producer of Sedaap Noodles in Gresik, East Java, who is rumored to have laid off 400-500 employees to avoid giving the Eid Bonus (THR).
Ministry of Industry spokesman Febri Hendri Antoni Arief said his party had asked for clarification from the company regarding the issue.
On that occasion, the producer of Sedaap Noodles explained that the workers who were reported to be at home were temporary workers or outsourcing employees who were not directly tied to the company, but by a third party.
The outsourcing employees were previously employed by the company to increase production during Ramadan and Lebaran 2026.
"We have asked the industry concerned about this and explained that they are increasing production ahead of religious holidays and for this production increase they are recruiting a number of outsourcing workers," said Febri when met at the Ministry of Industry's office, Jakarta, Thursday, February 26.
However, after the number of products for the Lebaran holiday had been met, the company again reduced its production capacity to normal levels.
In this phase, the Mie Sedaap factory completed its outsourcing labor contract. So, he made sure that there were no permanent workers who were laid off, let alone layoffs (PHK).
"Seasonal demand ahead of religious holidays has exceeded its peak and is now starting to reduce production. Well, along with that, they are reducing their outsourcing employees. Not permanent workers, so there is no layoffs there," he said.
According to Febri, this practice is very common in various industries in the country ahead of holidays, national holidays, and at certain times such as during the harvest season for industries related to agriculture, which is in no way in violation of existing laws and policies.
He gave an example, in the tobacco industry (IHT), many domestic companies employ workers/contract workers or outsourcing during the tobacco harvest season. Workers will usually be empowered by related companies until the production period is completed.
"After production is completed, usually the side workers are then stopped and do not violate any rules. It is indeed a contract, outsourcing, not permanent staff," said Febri.
Therefore, according to Febri, if the steps taken by the Mie Sedaap manufacturer in Gresik are not at all related to the issue of avoiding the provision of THR.
"Yes, that is a normal thing and not because there is a moment of avoiding giving THR to them in layoffs, it is not," he added.
