Only 5 Foreign Tourists Visiting Riau In April 2021

JAKARTA - Head of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of Riau Province, Misfaruddin, said that in April 2021, from four entrances to Riau, five foreign tourists (tourists) came to Riau Province.

"The number of foreign tourists visiting during April 2021 decreased by 58.33 percent, or down compared to March 2021, which was recorded at 12 foreign tourists," said Misfaruddin in Pekanbaru, quoted from Antara, Thursday, June 3.

The decline in foreign tourist visits to Riau was caused by the unfinished COVID-19 pandemic that hit the world, including Indonesia, as well as being the main factor that greatly influenced foreign tourists visiting Indonesia and especially to Riau Province.

Of the five foreign tourists who visited Riau, it was recorded through Sultan Syarif Kasim II Airport as many as 1 foreign tourists and four others through Dumai Port.

"Observing the pattern of foreign tourist visits to Riau Province through Sultan Syarif Kasim II Airport in Pekanbaru City during 2018-2019, conditions are quite fluctuating," he said.

However, on the contrary, in 2020 from April to December almost no foreign tourists visited Riau through the SSK II Airport entrance due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"It's been a year, the tourism sector has experienced the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, which until now has not ended. The number of foreign tourists who come is still very low," he said.
