JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works (PU) targets the construction of five permanent People's Schools (SR) in East Java to be completed in 2026.
The project cost an estimated IDR 1.165 trillion and is targeted to start operating in the 2026-2027 school year.
"We ensure that the SR education facility is built quickly, correctly and with quality so that it can be immediately used by the community," said Minister PU Dody Hanggodo as quoted from a written statement, Monday, February 9.
The five locations for the construction of SR in East Java are in Gresik, Tuban, Sampang, Jombang and Surabaya City.
Dody said that the construction of SR is a manifestation of the government's commitment to improving the quality of human resources.
According to him, the availability of decent education infrastructure is an important foundation for producing superior and competitive generations.
The construction of the SR in East Java is financed through the State Budget (APBN) for the 2025-2026 Fiscal Year with a contract value of around IDR 1,165 trillion, including value added tax (VAT).
The project was carried out by the Waskita-CAG KSO consortium.
The work contract was signed on November 28, 2025 and is targeted to be completed by the end of June 2026.
Dody added, SR East Java Province 1 is designed as an integrated education area.
In addition to school buildings for elementary, middle and high school levels, the area is also equipped with student dormitories for boys and girls, teachers' dormitories, multipurpose buildings, mosques and houses of worship, sports fields, ceremonial fields, canteens, open green spaces to wastewater treatment systems (IPAL).

Nationally, the construction of SR Phase II is carried out in 104 locations spread across 32 provinces and 102 regencies/cities.
The program is targeted to accommodate around 112,320 students with a total of 3,744 study groups (rombel), consisting of 1,872 SD study groups, 936 SMP study groups, and 936 SMA study groups.
