JAKARTA - PT Pembangunan Aceh (Perseroda) has officially entered into a strategic partnership with PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk (PGN) to optimize the potential of natural gas in the Aceh region.
This synergy was marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on a Joint Study on the Utilization of Gas Supply at the Muraya Hotel, Banda Aceh, Monday, January 19, 2026.
PEMA's Business Development Director, Naufal Natsir Mahmud, revealed that the scope of this study includes an evaluation of current supply potential to future projections, including the utilization of the Mubadala Block. He emphasized that energy supply stability is the key to reviving the regional economy, especially during the post-disaster recovery situation.
"In an effort to revive Aceh's economic wheel, stable energy is needed. PEMA is aware of the importance of strategic partners such as PGN to jointly build a comprehensive natural gas ecosystem in Aceh," said Naufal in a statement to the media, Wednesday, January 21.
Regarding investment, PEMA will conduct in-depth studies to develop a measurable development phase (tier), ranging from short-term to long-term plans.
"We hope that this cooperation can make a real contribution to Aceh's economic growth. We also encourage downstream processing to be able to present a multiplier effect, including the sustainable absorption of labor for the people of Aceh," he added.
a also ensures that local human resources (HR) will be given ample room to be involved in future business operations.
In line with this, PGN's Strategy and Business Development Director, Mirza Mahendra, considers Aceh as a vital point (key point) to utilize Aceh's natural resource potential for national energy security. This cooperation combines PEMA's local understanding, regional development mandate, and PGN's national capabilities in the field of natural gas management.
PGN will focus on optimizing infrastructure that connects supply sources with demand points, especially to support Special Economic Zones (KEK) in Lhokseumawe and Aceh Besar.
"PGN is conducting a thorough mapping of potential gas supply, infrastructure development needs, and potential demand to be served, to ensure optimal connectivity between gas sources and demand centers in Aceh," explained Mirza.
Mirza added that this technical study will determine whether the gas distribution will be carried out through a pipeline network or in the form of a conversion of forms such as Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG).
"The target for realization is expected to be faster so that the economic aspect can be confirmed and infrastructure development can be immediately realized," said Mirza.
