JAKARTA - The aviation and tourism BUMN holding, InJourney, has stepped on the gas to strengthen the hospitality business line. This year, the number of hotels to be managed by InJourney will jump significantly to 106 hotels, from the previous 39 hotels.
InJourney's President Director, Maya Watono, said the increase would be carried out through a consolidation process that is currently underway. This step is part of InJourney's big strategy in its fourth year of existence.
"Now we manage 39, later this year it will be consolidated to 106 hotels," said Maya at the InJourney Office, Jakarta, written on Tuesday, January 20.
Maya said that the consolidation of the hotel management was still in the discussion stage with Danantara Indonesia as the shareholder. Because it is still part of the corporate action scheme, InJourney cannot disclose further details.
"That will be communicated in the next few months. Because right now it's still a corporate action status, yes," said Maya.
According to Maya, this consolidation step aims to strengthen InJourney's main business as a state-owned holding company in the aviation and tourism sectors. Given that hotels are an important part of the national tourism ecosystem.
"Airport as a core business, aviation services are also in line with the core business, hotels are in line with the core business. So we all return according to the core business," he said.
Maya also said that focusing on the core business would make InJourney more solid in building a fundamental and sustainable business model going forward.
"That is the goal so that we can also focus on business and implement a fundamental and sustainable business model in the future," added Maya.
In addition to expanding the number of hotels, InJourney, through its subsidiary, InJourney Hospitality, is also preparing to launch the revitalization of a historic hotel in the Malioboro area, Yogyakarta, namely Grand Hotel De Djokja.
Maya said the hotel has a long historical value because it has been standing since 1911. InJourney is committed to restoring the hotel's character to its original form more than a century ago.
"So this is really a historic hotel from 1911, and what we did was bring the hotel back to 1911, like Raffles in Singapore," said Maya.
According to Maya, this revitalization effort is in line with InJourney's mission to preserve Indonesia's wealth.
"So if we say preserving Indonesia, there are actually two meanings for InJourney, our culture is preserved, our nature is preserved," concluded Maya.
