Improving the Quality of Local Products Expanding the Global Market

JAKARTA - Director General of the National Export Promotion Directorate of the Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) Fajarini Puntodewi said that improving the quality of local products can expand the market even further, even for the international market.

"Products exported from Indonesia, if they enter the goods there (destination country), it is (must) according to the standard (destination country). So why are these businesses (expected) also so that the standard is the same. Because if we send the goods, it is, it must be according to market demand," said Fajarini as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, January 20.

He assessed that Indonesia has great potential to become a producer and supplier (supplier) of products in various industrial sectors.

For this reason, education, training, and business matching involving stakeholders, including the government and retailers from other countries, are very important so that micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) can have knowledge related to standardization and interest from the international market.

"If (later) it can develop, they can collaborate more deeply, we can also increase our supply," said Fajarini.

On the other hand, the President Director of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) Jakarta Shinji Hirai said product standardization is vital for international trade activities.

"Of course, if the product is international standard, (exports) are not only to Japan, but can be expanded to other countries. That is what is expected. So both countries, win-win, will benefit and in the future it will be better for both parties," said Hirai.

In addition, Hirai assessed that business meetings between business actors of each country were also expected to strengthen bilateral relations between the two parties, including Japan and Indonesia, and increase the economic wheel for the two countries in the future.

"Hopefully this can be useful and help Japanese companies find new suppliers. We hope we can develop this project by considering the needs of Japan and Indonesia," said Hirai.
