JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works (PU) has prepared a budget of Rp. 667 billion to restore or repair the Malalak Road in Agam Regency, West Sumatra, which was cut off due to a natural disaster at the end of November 2025.

"A total of Rp667 billion has been prepared for the construction of Malalak Road in the 2026 and 2027 fiscal years," said member of the Indonesian House of Representatives Andre Rosiade as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, January 20.

For 2026, the government first prepared a budget of Rp. 370 billion.

Meanwhile, the rest is prepared for work in 2027.

The restoration of the Malalak Road is considered vital because it connects a number of districts and cities in the Ranah Minang.

Moreover, for the past few years, the road built during Governor Gamawan Fauzi's time, has become the main route for the Eid al-Fitr homecoming, in addition to the Padang-Bukittinggi route.

Andre said the central government took over the construction of Jalan Malalak which should have been the authority of the provincial government. This step was taken considering the large budget needed for repairs.

"President Prabowo through the PU Ministry took over the work on this road so that it can be accessed by the public as soon as possible," he said.

Currently, the PU Ministry is still speeding up the construction of Malalak Road and it is expected to be functionally used by the community in December 2026. However, the road is estimated to not be fully passable, especially from kilometer 78 to kilometer 83.

"Especially from kilometer 78 to kilometer 83, we will complete it in 2027," he said.

On that occasion, he said that the central government had prepared a budget of IDR 18.3 trillion to deal with the impact of damage caused by disasters in West Sumatra Province.

The funds will be used for rehabilitation and reconstruction, construction and repair.

Specifically, the Ministry of PU allocates Rp13.5 trillion for infrastructure development.

Meanwhile, the rest are at the Ministry of Agriculture, the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) to the Ministry of Housing and Settlements.

Separately, West Sumatra Governor Mahyeldi said the province needed a budget of Rp. 21.44 trillion to meet various post-disaster needs that occurred in 16 districts and cities.

Mahyeldi said the budget reflected the needs that must be met gradually, and planned so that recovery could run well and be targeted.

In terms of authority, post-disaster needs are divided into three levels.
