JAKARTA - The government continues to monitor the development of the situation in Venezuela, especially its impact on world oil prices. Until early January 2026, global oil prices are still relatively stable and have not shown significant turmoil.
Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto said the current oil price is in the range of 63 US dollars per barrel. According to him, in the last one to two days there has been no significant price spike.
"The main thing is that the price of oil is affected. But until one or two days ago there was no change. There was no high turbulence and the oil price was relatively low," Airlangga told reporters at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, Monday, January 5, 2026.
Airlangga emphasized that the government had not taken any special steps and chose to continue to monitor the developing dynamics. The same applies to cooperation with Venezuela.
Regarding the political situation in the country, Airlangga explained that Venezuela's relationship with the United States had indeed been long and tense since the nationalization of US oil company assets during the era of President Hugo Chavez in Venezuela.
He ensured that Indonesia did not have assets in Venezuela. "We have no assets," said Airlangga.
Regarding energy cooperation, Airlangga said the memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Venezuela would undergo changes in line with the change of government in the country. However, until now the government has not seen any changes to Pertamina's assets there.
On the other hand, Airlangga revealed that Indonesia will send a team back to the United States on January 12-19, 2026. The team will discuss legal drafting and Articles of Agreement (ART) related to trade tariff issues.
"Later there will be a team leaving. From there, we can only know the next schedule," he said.
Meanwhile, the plan to import oil and gas has not been realized so far. "Not yet," said Airlangga briefly.
