JAKARTA - Danone Indonesia continues its humanitarian commitment in responding to natural disasters that have hit a number of areas in Sumatra by focusing on distributing assistance to Aceh Tamiang Regency.
This step is part of the corporate role in supporting the social and economic recovery of disaster-affected communities.
Based on data from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) as of December 22, 2025, the disaster caused 1,090 fatalities, 186 people were reported missing, and around 7,000 people were injured.
The total number of refugees in the three affected provinces reached 499,900 people, with damage to more than 147,000 houses and hundreds of public facilities.
Aceh Tamiang was recorded as one of the areas with significant impacts, with 68 fatalities and more than 150,500 refugees.
The recovery process still faces various challenges, ranging from damage to road infrastructure, electricity constraints, to a clean water crisis that directly impacts economic activities and public services, including the health sector.
Danone Indonesia carried out this humanitarian assistance through collaboration with the Muhammadiyah Disaster Management Center (MDMC), distributor partner PT Tirta Sumber Menaralestari in Medan, and the Indonesian Midwives Association (IBI) Aceh Tamiang Branch.
The assistance provided includes drinking water to a certain amount of money for recovery needs in the field.
Vice President General Secretary Danone Indonesia Vera Galuh Sugijanto said the company's involvement was focused on meeting the basic needs of affected people as a foundation for recovery.
"We are moving quickly with the community and partners to ensure basic needs such as drinking water and children's nutrition can be met. This is a first step and will continue to be adjusted to meet the needs during the emergency response and recovery period," he said.
In addition to the evacuation location, Danone Indonesia also distributed drinking water assistance to the Aceh Tamiang Regional Hospital to support the operationalization of health services which experienced a surge in patients.
The company also opened communication with hospital management to identify further needs, including clean water support, logistics, and the recovery of health facilities.
Previously, similar assistance had been distributed to the Tanjung Pura area, Langkat Regency, and Central Tapanuli.
Logistics distribution is focused on areas with limited access, in order to maintain the smooth supply chain of basic needs of affected people.
The Chairman of the MDMC of the PP Muhammadiyah, Budi Setiawan, assessed that collaboration with the private sector accelerated the distribution of assistance in the affected areas.
"The conditions in Aceh Tamiang are still quite difficult, with many refugees staying in emergency tents and logistical constraints. The support of Danone Indonesia and its distributor partners has greatly helped accelerate the distribution of drinking water, children's nutrition, and hygiene kits to hard-to-reach locations," he said.
Vera added, as part of the Indonesian community, Danone is committed to being sustainably involved in the recovery phase.
The company has also coordinated with local governments and relevant ministries to support recovery in various disaster-affected areas in Sumatra.
