JAKARTA - PT Waskita Karya (Persero) Tbk (WSKT) announced that the development of the Probolinggo Toll Road Banyuwangi Package 3 construction project in East Java has reached 90.66 percent. One of the Trans Java Toll Roads with a length of 5.8 kilometers (km) will be opened for free during the Christmas and New Year 2026 holidays.
Waskita Karya Corporate Secretary Ermy Puspa Yunita hopes that the opening of the Probowangi Toll Road can unravel congestion at several points during the holiday season. The opening of the expressway is also expected to increase the tourism sector because it has a giant bridge of 450 meters (m) that stretches over the Paiton hills.
"It is not easy to build this bridge, because its location divides hills and ravines. Even so, we are trying to complete it optimally so that the entire community can be used," said Ermy in a written statement, Wednesday, December 10.
According to Ermy, the bridge on the toll road will become one of the new infrastructure icons in East Java because the structure is towering above the hilly contour. Moreover, he said, the Probowangi Toll Road also facilitated access to Ijen Crater, Pulau Merah Beach, Baluran and Alas Purwo National Park.
The Probowangi toll road also makes it easier to travel to Bromo Tengger Semeru. Then it became an important link from Merak to Banyuwangi, as well as connecting various big cities such as Surabaya and Malang to Banyuwangi.
On the other hand, said Ermy, WSKT is optimistic that the existence of the Probowangi Toll Road will encourage investment and economic growth. He said the trigger for growth was because this road cut travel time between regions in the logistics sector.
"The Trans Java toll road network can shorten the travel time from the direction of Probolinggo to Besuki. It is hoped that from the previous one hour 15 minutes it can be only 30 minutes, with an average speed of 80-100 kilometers (km) per hour," he said.

"We believe that the more infrastructure is built, the more equal the service, assistance and facilities are received by the community. That way, it is able to boost the regional economy," he explained.
The construction of the Probowangi Toll Road from Gending to Besuki is divided into three work packages. Package 1 section of Gending'Kraksaan, counter 2 Kraksaan 'Paiton and package 3 Paiton'Besuki.
