Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadivewa gave a firm warning to Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Financial Services Authority (OJK) Mahendra Siregar regarding the rampant practice of fried shares in the capital market.
Purbaya asked the OJK to clean up the stock manipulation practice within six months.
According to him, cleaning the capital market is an important requirement to build a healthier investment environment.
He emphasized that the government will not provide incentives as long as the market is still colored by fraudulent practices that harm novice investors.
"As I promised Pak Mahendra, if you can clean up the fried food, wait for retail investors to be protected. I will give additional incentives, tax breaks and others so that many people enter the stock market. But the entry is not into the market that can deceive them," he said at the Indonesia Stock Exchange Building, quoted Thursday, December 4.
He assessed that providing incentives in the midst of markets that are still vulnerable to manipulation has the potential to create new problems.
"Later, my sins will get bigger if that's the case. We have to make sure to enter a relatively clean market," he added.
Purbaya emphasized that the government will evaluate OJK's commitment to cracking down on stock fry perpetrators within six months.
"Within six months, if (the stock fried perpetrator) is arrested or punished, we will give incentives quickly. So that investors who enter the stock market, directly or through mutual funds, can make fair profit," he explained.
He added that providing incentives is not just an empty promise, but is the government's strategy to increase community participation in the capital market.
