JAKARTA - SKK Migas with Petrogas (Basin) Ltd. carried out the exploration well of Karim #1 in the Bird Head Working Area, Sorong Regency, Southwest Papua on Friday, November 21.

Sumur Karim #1 merupakan well eksplorasi yang dibor Petrogas (Basin) Ltd. sebagai bagian dari pemenuhan Komitmen Kerja Pasti Wilayah Kerja Bangbang.

The Head of SKK Migas Representatives for the Papua and Maluku Regions, Mardianto, said that this activity coincided with the commemoration of the Special Autonomy Day in Papua.

"SKK Migas hopes that today's Karim #1 Exploration Well Hijack activity can be part of joint efforts to provide benefits for the benefit of the community and support welfare growth in Papua," said Mardianto, Friday, November 28.

The drilling of the Karim #1 well is planned to reach a depth of about 4,300 ft using Rig #3 Petrogas (Basin) Ltd. which has a power of 750 HP with the main target being Kais Formation carbonates.

It is estimated that this drilling will take about a month and a half while still prioritizing aspects of Health, Work Safety, and Environment (K3L).

"With a new approach to the concept of exploration and supported by the latest technology, Karim is a ready-to- drill prospect that finally hits today," said President of RH Petrogas Companies in Indonesia, Ferry Hakim.

He added that this well has a high strategic value, the results of this well will open up the potential for field development around it.

"This is our step to optimize oil and gas potential in the Southwest Papua region and as an effort to strengthen opportunities for the discovery of new oil and gas reserves to support the achievement of national energy security," he continued.

In addition, during the preparation period, the implementation of this drilling has also had a positive impact on the community around the drilling area, one of which is in the infrastructure sector.

Public access became easier after Petrogas (Basin) Ltd. renovated the Klagana bridge, four other connecting bridges, and access to and from the village around the well location.

In addition, Petrogas (Basin) Ltd. also provides opportunities for workers from villages around the well location to contribute directly as non-technical additional workers during this drilling period.
