BALI - The Bali Provincial Government said it had proposed a cocoa plant rejuvenation program to increase productivity.
"We ask for seeds from the center to be in Jembrana and Tabanan Regencies, we have submitted them through e-proposals," said Head of the Plantation Division of the Bali Province Agriculture and Food Security Service, Dewa Ayu Nyoman Budiasih in the presentation of Kakao Contribution to the State Budget and the Economy, Monday, November 24.
He explained that rejuvenation efforts are needed because many cocoa plants in Bali whose conditions have been damaged and are more than 20 years old.
Based on data on the fixed figure of 2024, the area of cocoa land in Bali reaches 13,398 hectares with a total production of 4,868 tons, or an average of 461 kilograms per hectare per year.
He said that the cocoa plantation was spread across eight districts in Bali, except for Denpasar City, which does not have cocoa land.
Of the total area, the three districts with the widest cocoa area are Jembrana with an area of 6,340 hectares, Tabanan with 4,529 hectares, and Buleleng with 1,169 hectares.
Meanwhile, Dewa conveyed that the total cocoa plants that were damaged or no longer produced reached 2,087 hectares. The largest damage was in Jembrana covering an area of 1,114 hectares and in Tabanan 498 hectares.
"The average productivity yield in Bali is still low, below 500 kilograms per hectare per year except for Jembrana which is 687 kilograms because most (plants) are old over 20 years old," he explained.
