PHE Takes A Modern Approach In Mature Field Management

JAKARTA - PT Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE) is implementing the latest innovative strategies and technological implementation in managing old oil and gas fields.

Pertamina Hulu Energi Corporate Secretary Hermansyah Y Nasroen explained that most of the assets managed by PHE are oil and gas fields that have been operating for a long time but still make a significant contribution to national production.

Most of the national oil production comes from mature fields that we manage in various parts of Indonesia. The main challenge is how to maintain production levels in the midst of declining reservoir conditions naturally," said Hermansyah, Saturday, November 22.

To answer these challenges, PHE implemented a comprehensive approach based on asset integrity management, digitization, and technological innovation in wells and production facilities. PHE continues to optimize the management of mature fields such as in the Mahakam and Rokan Working Areas.

"We use a conventional and modern approach, including the application of digital intelligence to monitor the performance of wells and production facilities in real time so that the optimization process can be carried out quickly and precisely," said Hermansyah.

Through these various approaches, PHE continues to optimize its role in maintaining national energy supply. Until the third quarter of 2025, PHE recorded oil production achievements of 553 thousand barrels per day (MBOPD) and gas production of 2.83 billion cubic feet per day (BSCFD) standards. In addition, 28,507 well intervention & services activities have been carried out, 969 well workovers, and 661 development wells have been successfully completed.

Hermansyah emphasized that technology is only one of the pillars in the success of the manufacturing field management. Human factors remain the key.

The success of this strategy is very dependent on the competence of personnel in the field. We continue to develop the capabilities of workers, both seniors and the new generation, to be adaptive, innovative, and able to respond to industrial challenges," he explained.
