JAKARTA - Minister of Cooperatives Ferry Juliantono emphasized the importance of rebuilding cooperative business networks to strengthen the cooperative business ecosystem throughout Indonesia. He said, cross-business collaboration is the key to cooperatives developing more modern and competitively.
"The existence of the Red and White Village Cooperatives in the future is encouraged to synergize and collaborate with many business actors, such as cooperatives that already exist, BUMDes, people's stalls, to traditional markets," he said in an official statement, Friday, November 21.
Ferry emphasized that his party will build the people's economic strength together. "We invite all elements of the people's economy to unite forces from now on," he said.
In the forum attended by Deputy Governor of Central Java Taj Yasin Maimoen, General Chairperson of Dekopin Bambang Haryadi, and Chairman of the Central Java Dekopinwil Andang Wahyu Triyanto, Ferry also outlined plans to make Ikopin University a Public Service Agency (BLU). This effort is directed to strengthen the regeneration of more professional cooperative cadres.
"The goal is that we can seriously produce good and modern cooperative cadres," he explained.
Ferry revealed that the cooperative will later have and manage more than 80,000 outlets or retail outlets throughout Indonesia. "We will manage it to become a modern retailer," said Ferry.
However, Ferry wants the products in the Red and White Kopdes retail outlets to be produced by cooperatives themselves.
"Indeed, not all goods can be produced by cooperatives. So, we can collaborate with other parties or cooperate with the private sector," he said.
Ferry encourages cooperatives to start entering the production and manufacturing sector. According to him, many MSME products have the potential to be developed, as long as the perpetrators transform from informal business into formal sectors through cooperative business entities.
"They must change to a formal sector and have a business entity. And business entities that are suitable for the development of MSME products are cooperatives," he said.
Meanwhile, Deputy Governor of Central Java Taj Yasin Maimoen expressed the need to change the old perception that cooperatives are only synonymous with savings and loans.
"So we must be grateful, currently cooperatives are given the opportunity to be more advanced, by being able to manage mines to other business units," said the Deputy Governor.
He said, if managed properly, the existence of cooperatives will bring more equitable welfare. "Because everything has been accommodated in cooperatives," he said.

On the other hand, the General Chairperson of Dekopin Bambang Haryadi emphasized the importance of synergy between Dekopin and the government in strengthening the cooperative movement in each region.
"Currently, when this cooperative space is wide open, it is time for cooperative drivers throughout Indonesia to help strengthen the economy of our nation," said Bambang.
He gave an example of a successful cooperative model in Europe, such as Rabo Bank in the Netherlands to a large agro and supermarket industry networks in Switzerland. Even Barcelona football clubs, he said, are cooperatives.
"When it is stigmatized in society that cooperatives are identical to something ancient, then we start from leadership. Starting from young people who care about cooperatives," said Bambang.
