JAKARTA - AirNav Indonesia recorded a significant decline in aircraft movements, namely an average of 65.54 percent at 52 airports throughout Indonesia during the seven days of eliminating the Lebaran homecoming period in 2021 compared to the period before the elimination of homecoming.
President Director of AirNav Indonesia, M. Pramintohadi Sukarno, in a press statement in Jakarta, Tuesday, said that AirNav Indonesia compared aircraft movement data for seven days of the elimination period for homecoming on 6-12 May 2021 with seven days before the period of eliminating homecoming on 29 April - 5 May 2021.
He explained that the number of aircraft movements, both take-off and landing for domestic and international routes, at 52 airports throughout the archipelago during the period of elimination of homecoming decreased significantly. From 23,469 movements during the one week before the homecoming elimination period, there were 8,087 movements during the homecoming elimination period.
The flights that are still operating are flights that are still allowed to operate, namely transportation of the Head of the RI State Higher Education Institution and state guests, operational transportation for law enforcement, cargo flight, pioneer transportation, and other air transportation with urgent needs for the benefit of non-homecoming.
"The government's policy to ban Eid homecoming in 2021 to prevent the spread of COVID-19, especially using air transportation, has proven to be effective," he said.
Pramintohadi revealed that the three airports with the most significant reduction in aircraft movements were Labuan Bajo, Bima and Kulon Progo Airports.
"Labuan Bajo Airport decreased from 136 movements during one week, to 6 movements or down 94.85 percent. Bima Airport decreased from 67 movements during one week, to 4 movements or decreased 94.03 percent. Kulon Progo Airport fell from 342 movements during the week. one week, to be 26 movements or down 92.4 percent, "he said.
AirNav Indonesia also recorded a decline for the five airports with the most aircraft movements, namely Jakarta, Makassar, Surabaya, Medan and Denpasar.
The Jakarta Air Traffic Services Center (JATSC), which serves aircraft movements at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, also experienced a decline from 4,641 movements during one week to 1,463 movements, or a decrease of 68.48 percent.
Makassar Air Traffic Services Center (MATSC), which serves aircraft movements at Hasanuddin Airport, decreased from 1,821 movements in one week to 416 movements, down 77.16 percent. Surabaya experienced a decline from 1,642 movements in one week to 393 movements or down 76.07 percent.

Even though there was a significant decline, Pramintohadi emphasized that his party would still maintain the best quality of flight navigation services to serve all flights in Indonesian air space.
"Our commitment remains the same, which is to provide safe and efficient flight navigation services, not only for large airports, but also for small airports throughout the archipelago," he said.
