JAKARTA - I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport experienced an increase in the number of passengers on routes to and from Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, during the Mandalika MotoGP international racing event.

"There has been a significant increase, which is more than 7 percent," said General Manager of I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport Ahmad Syaugi Shahab, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, October 7.

In a statement received in Denpasar, Bali, Tuesday, Ahmad Syaugi said the Mandalika MotoGP event had also had a positive impact on I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport as reflected in the increase from October 1-5, 2025.

During that period, 3,442 passengers traveled on the Lombok route, which was divided into 1,712 passengers arriving and 1,730 passengers departing.

In the five days of monitoring by airport managers in South Bali, there were an average of 688 passengers, with the highest traffic peak occurring on October 2, 2025, with as many as 820 passengers.

"We have seen traffic from and to Lombok in the last 5 days showing a positive record, a total of 3,442 passengers, compared to the same period in the previous week, September 26-30, 2025, recorded 3,210 passengers," he said.

Fortunately, the increase in the number of passengers was anticipated because previously I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport had received additional flight submissions from Wings Air on the Denpasar-Lombok-Denpasar route for the flight period 2 and 7 October 2025.

"Before the MotoGP event on Sunday, October 5, we also recorded two private flights from Bali to Lombok," said Ahmad Syaugi.

According to him, this condition shows the high interest of the public to witness firsthand the world's most prestigious motorcycle racing event, besides that another positive side of this phenomenon is an opportunity for growth in the regional and national tourism sectors.

"Ngurah Rai Airport is currently connected to more than 50 major cities in the world and Indonesia, as the main gateway to Indonesian tourism and with international-scale events we want to continue to connect the world with cities in Indonesia, one of which is Lombok through the annual MotoGP event," said Ahmad Syaugi.

To note overall, the airport currently serves 64 domestic and international routes with 53 airlines operating.
