Jewelry Gold Becomes Inflation Contributor For 25 Months In A Row

JAKARTA - Head of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti revealed that gold commodities, especially gold jewelery, have contributed to inflation for 25 consecutive months since September 2023.

Amalia said that the gold jewelery commodity was one of the main commodities contributing to inflation in September 2025, where month to month (mtm), gold jewelery recorded inflation of 1.24 percent

"The price of gold in the month to month in the last two years has seen gold prices continue to increase month to month (mtm) so that it contributes 0.08 percent to inflation in September and even contributes 9.95 percent to private care groups and other services," he said during a coordination meeting for controlling regional inflation. 2025, in Jakarta, Monday, October 6.

According to Amalia in the last 25 months, gold has experienced inflation, due to an increase in gold prices in that period.

"This means that price increases will continue to occur within 25 consecutive months since September 2023. Even gold jewelery inflation in September 2025 is the highest inflation in the last five months which has reached 1.24 percent month to month," he said.

Amalia explained that the trend of increasing the price of gold monthly in the last two years had a direct impact on core inflation.

Meanwhile, in September 2025, core inflation of 0.18 percent on a monthly basis contributed 0.11 percent of inflation.

"Andil from this core inflation component is indeed contributed by the largest of gold jewelery and the second largest contributor, namely tuition fees," he said.

He conveyed that the tuition fee came as a contributor to core inflation because it coincided with the payment schedule at the beginning of the semester.

Overall, inflation in September 2025 was recorded at 0.21 percent on a monthly basis, 2.65 percent on an annual basis (year on year), and 1.82 percent on a calendar year (year to date).
