Director General Of Oil And Gas ESDM Regarding The Etanol Content In Base Fuel: Many Have Used It Internationally

JAKARTA - Director General of Oil and Gas (Dirjen Migas) Laode Suleman, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, opened his voice regarding the content of ethanol in pure fuel (base fuel) imported by Pertamina.

Just so you know, the content of ethanol as the culprit of Vivo canceled absorbing 40,000 barrels of Pertamina's fuel base.

Laode said, actually the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources only regulates the specifications of the octane value (RON) in fuel, so that additional substances that are still within the range of specifications are still permitted.

Laode also said that the ethanol content in fuel oil is a common practice in the international world. For this reason, the use of ethanol is considered not to interfere with the performance of vehicle engines.

"Many people actually use ethanol international. So it doesn't interfere with performance and even good using ethanol," explained Laode to the media crew, Friday, October 3.

He further explained that large countries with upstream ethanol industries such as Brazil have used ethanol for a long time with ethanol content above 20 percent.

"So there's no real problem," explained Laode.

In fact, he continued, Shell America also uses ethanol in its fuel content.

"In America, Shell also uses ethanol. In America, they use ethanol for gasoline," said Laode.

Meanwhile, Pertamina Patra Niaga as a base fuel supplier explained that the ethanol content in fuel is a common practice among oil and gas companies and applies internationally.

"The use of fuel with an ethanol mixture of up to 10 percent has become the best practice in many countries such as America, Brazil, and even neighboring countries such as Thailand," said Roberth in a statement to the media, Thursday, October 2.

Menurutnya, penggunaan etanol di beberapa negara tersebut merupakan bagian dari upaya mendorong energi yang lebih ramah lingkungan sekaligus mendukung pengurangan emisi karbon.

Meski terdapat polemik yang berkembang di tengah masyarakat, Robert memastikan Pertamina Patra Niaga memastikan bahwa layanan BBM tetap berjalan normal tanpa kendala.
