JAKARTA - President Director and Country Chair of Shell Indonesia Ingrid Siburian revealed that his party is currently experiencing a fuel shortage since August 2025.

Ingrid said, of the 200 gas stations spread across Java, there are still 5 gas stations that still sell fuel.

"Currently, there may not be up to 10. Only about 5 gas stations that, if we see tomorrow night, may also run out. So indeed we are really experiencing stock out, scarcity for gasoline type fuel," he said in a Hearing Meeting with Commission XII DPR RI, Wednesday, October 1.

According to him, his party always anticipates the vacancy by submitting import approvals to the government first. Ingrid said that actually the gas station with the shell logo had submitted an additional application for fuel import quotas since last June.

Ingrid said this situation had been predicted by Shell due to an increase in demand for fuel from customers this year.

"Because we saw an increase in demand based on consumer demand for us," he continued.

Ingrid added that the application letter addressed to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) was not approved by the Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Yuliot Tanjung.

"The letter says imports are currently limited to only 10 percent above sales from 2024," he said.

After receiving a reply from the Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Ingrid continued, his party was actively coordinating by attending a meeting held by the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources with private business entities and PT Pertamina on September 19, 2025.

During the meeting, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia mediated between business entities which then agreed to buy a base fuel from Pertamina.

"Initially Pertamina provided as is products, but finally after listening to our concerns, finally Pertamina was willing to provide products in the form of base fuel and we really appreciated this," explained Ingrid.

Ingrid ensured that until now her party was still discussing with Pertamina on a business to business (B2B) regarding the plan to supply base fuel to Shell.

"I want to convey that Shell has a very high commitment in providing the best service to consumers," he said.
