JAKARTA - The affiliated company Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE), Citicore Renewable Energy Corporation (CREC), built a Solar Power Plant (PLTS) with a capacity of 197 megawatt peak (MWp) with the support of a battery energy storage system (BESS) of 320 megawatt hour (MWh). This PLTS is officially operating in Bataras Province, Philippines and was inaugurated by Philippine President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr.

Pertamina NRE CEO John Anis explained that this PLTS was built in two locations, namely Lumbangan 125 MWp and Rental 72 MWp, both of which are in Bataras Province. With the support of BESS, this facility is the first hybrid PLTS as well as the baseload in the Philippines, which means that this PLTS is capable of supplying continuous clean electricity 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

"As a shareholder of CREC, we really appreciate this achievement because it helped strengthen Pertamina NRE's renewable energy portfolio. This is the beginning of the big target of CREC, increasing its capacity of 1 GW per year in the next five years," said John, Friday, September 19.

Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. also expressed his appreciation and hoped that CREC would be able to consistently achieve this target. This project is also an inspiration to encourage the use of renewable energy in Indonesia, especially with large-scale energy storage technology to overcome intermittency challenges.

In addition to strengthening the energy transition, CREC's performance is also impressive. In the first semester of 2025, the company recorded revenues of 2.66 billion Peso Philippines or 134 million US dollars with net profit growing 38 percent to 630 million Peso Philippines or 32 million US dollars. Its share price has also increased 32 percent since the beginning of the year.

The Bataras PLTS is estimated to reduce carbon emissions to 265,933 tons of CO2e per year, if the assumption of carbon absorption of 1 tree is equivalent to 25 kg, this project is equivalent to planting more than 12 million trees. Not only that, this PLTS is also ready to supply clean electricity for 158,300 households. This positive impact is in line with Pertamina's aspirations in encouraging energy transitions in the ASEAN region.

Pertamina's Vice President of Corporate Communication, Fadjar Djoko Santoso added, Pertamina supports the steps taken by Subholding and Subsidiaries in developing a clean energy business to achieve energy security in the country. More than that, Pertamina also hopes to help lead the energy transition in the Southeast Asia region.

"Pertamina as the leader of the energy transition in Indonesia hopes to take a role in the clean energy transition in the Southeast Asia Region. This is in line with Pertamina's focus in developing renewable energy," said Fadjar.
