Rupiah Is Predicted To Weaken Limited To Rp16,450 Per US Dollar Ahead Of RDG BI And FOMC

JAKARTA - The rupiah exchange rate in trading Monday, September 15, 2025, is estimated to have the potential to weaken against the United States (US) dollar.

To note, citing Bloomberg, on Friday, September 12, 2025, the rupiah spot exchange rate closed higher by 0.53 percent to the level of Rp. 16,375 per US dollar. Meanwhile, the Jakarta Interbank Spot Dollar Rate (Jisdor) exchange rate of Bank Indonesia (BI) closed up 0.47 percent to a price level of Rp. 16,391 per US dollar.

Doo Financial Futures analyst Lukman Leong said the rupiah exchange rate is expected to move consolidatively with limited potential for weakness, along with the strengthening of the US dollar.

"Rupiah is expected to consolidate with limited potential weakening by rebounds in the US dollar," he told VOI, Monday, September 15.

In addition, he explained that investors tend to be careful and choose to wait for the results of the BI Board of Governors (RDG BI) meeting as well as the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting which will take place on Wednesday.

"Investors tend to be careful and wait and see to replace the position of RDG BI and FOMC on Wednesday," he said.

However, Lukman said that currently there is no significant economic data release that can be a catalyst for the movement of the rupiah.

However, he said that the market was also watching the issues referred to as the Purbaya effect (Minister of Finance), related to liquidity injection of Rp200 trillion into the banking system and this step was welcomed positively by investors because it was considered to support economic growth.

However, Lukman considered that fundamentally this was a form of monetary easing which actually had the potential to reduce the rupiah exchange rate.

Lukman projects that the movement of the rupiah on Monday, September 15, will move in the range of Rp. 16,350 per US dollar to Rp. 16,450 per US dollar.
