Pertamina Claims SAF Innovation From Crude Oil Is The First In Southeast Asia

JAKARTA - Pertamina has just made the first Pertamina Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) flight made from Used Cooking Oil (UCO) or crude oil using Pelita Air.

Pertamina SAF innovation is the first in Southeast Asia.

Pertamina President Director Simon Aloysius Mantiri said Pertamina SAF marks the initial milestone in Pertamina's future business development, and Indonesia.

This is because Pertamina has succeeded in achieving milestones as the SAF Champion Region because it is the only company capable of creating an upstream-downstream SAF ecosystem in the ASEAN region.

"Based on the test, Pertamina's SAF was able to reduce carbon emissions by 84 percent compared to conventional avtur fuels. This achievement is a form of Pertamina's contribution to Indonesia. It even makes Pertamina SAF the first SAF product in Indonesia and Southeast Asia," said Simon, Friday, August 22.

Pertamina Deputy President Director Oki Muraza added, with the optimization of the SAF ecosystem, Pertamina targets that in the future it will become the main provider of environmentally friendly aircraft fuel, not only in Indonesia but also in the Southeast Asia region. Not only domestic, but also foreign.

"The potential for refined oil in Indonesia is very large, so we hope that Indonesia will become a Hub producing Sustainable Aviation Fuel, and its ideals in the future can become a regional hub in ASEAN," added Oki.

Penerbangan ini dilakukan oleh maskapai Pelita Air, anak usaha Pertamina, dengan rute penerbangan Jakarta - Bali di Terminal 3 Bandara Soekarno Hatta, Jakarta, pada Rabu, 20 Agustus 2025.

This flight was carried out by Pelita Air, a subsidiary of Pertamina, with the Jakarta - Bali flight route at Terminal 3 of Soekarno Hatta Airport, Jakarta, on Wednesday, August 20, 2025.
