The Ministry of Public Works (PU) is accelerating the construction of the Cabean Dam located in Karanganyar and Todanan villages, Todanan District, Blora Regency, Central Java.

The construction of the dam according to the contract began on December 20, 2023, with a overall physical progress until July 29, 2025, of 14.6 percent and is targeted for completion by the end of December 2026.

The dam construction work is under the responsibility of the Pemali Juana River Basin Center (BBWS), the Directorate General of Water Resources of the Ministry of Public Works, with contractor service provider PT Brantas Abipraya (Persero)-PT Marfrijaya Abadi (KSO).

"Our focus is water, especially to support food self-sufficiency according to the instructions of President Prabowo. By regulating water so that there is no drought in the dry season and flooding in the rainy season," said Dody as quoted from his written statement, Wednesday, August 20.

The infrastructure of water resources is built in drought-prone areas, so it is hoped that it can continue to meet the water needs of the community in a sustainable manner, especially during the long dry season.

By stemming the flow of the Galuk River, the dam has an effective reservoir volume of 2.58 million cubic meters which can be used to supply irrigation water, raw water, flood control as well as support Solar Power Plants (PLTS) with a capacity of 10 Megawatts.

Later, the water source from the Cabean Dam will be used to develop an 80 hectare Karanganyar Irrigation Area (DI). With a technical irrigation network system, the dam is expected to be able to increase the Planting Index (IP) from 175 percent to 275 percent.

This means that in one year farmers can plant it with a rice-padi-palawijia pattern, so that the harvest becomes more frequent and optimal.

Apart from agriculture, the Cabean Dam is also designed to meet the raw water needs of 127 liters per second for Pati Regency (100 liters per second) and Blora (27 liters per second).

The availability of water is projected to meet domestic needs of around 154,628 people or the equivalent of 59.14 percent of the water needs in three sub-districts, namely Todanan (Blora), Winong and Pucakwangi (Pati).

To note, the Cabean Dam was built with the Urugan Zonal Random Land type with a Tegak Core as high as 24 meters, a peak length of 318 meters and a peak width of 7 meters.

"The presence of this dam is also expected to be a flood control in the downstream area, especially in Todanan District covering an area of 5.32 hectares and tourism potential in Blora which can grow the local economy," he concluded.
