Taipei PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk or BRI has officially expanded its banking service reach to Taiwan and East Asia through the opening of the BRI Taipei Branch located at No. 166, Sec. 3, Nanjing East Road, Zhongshan District, Taipei City, Taiwan.
This is BRI's strategy to reach a market segment with great potential considering the volume of trade transactions and remittances between Taiwan-Indonesia continues to increase.
Meanwhile, BRI Taipei Branch's Grand Launching event was attended by BRI President Director Hery Gunardi, BRI Treasury and International Banking Director Farida Thamrin along with representative of the Indonesian Trade and Economic Office (KDEI) Taipei Arif Sulistyo at BRI Taipei Branch Office on Friday, August 8, 2025.
In his remarks, BRI President Director Hery Gunardi said that the existence of BRI Taipei Branch's foreign branch would strengthen the role of PMI (Indonesian migrant workers) as drivers of the regional economy.
"As the only branch office of an Indonesian bank in Taiwan, BRI Taipei Branch is ready to become a comprehensive banking service center, especially for around 360 thousand PMIs working in Taipei through remittance services, deposits, and investments for future planning," said Hery Gunardi.

Through its presence, BRI Taipei Branch offers integrated financial solutions, ranging from savings products, financing, to remittance services.
In addition, this branch also presents a number of new initiatives, such as the Advance FX Licence service to make it easier for customers to make foreign exchange transactions, as well as the launch of BRI ATM cards that can be used on Taiwan's banking network.
"Furthermore, BRI Taipei Branch is also planned to become the gateway for investment from Taiwan to Indonesia which can help investors to invest both directly and indirectly."
"With Yield's more competitive investment value, it will certainly attract investors from Taiwan to invest in Indonesia," said Hery.
On the same occasion, the Head of the Indonesian Trade and Economic Office (KDEI) in Taipei, Arif Sulistiyo, hopes that BRI's presence in Taiwan can further strengthen economic relations between Indonesia and Taiwan.
It is noted that the number of Indonesian diaspora in Taiwan currently reaches almost 400 thousand people, making it the third largest after Malaysia and Saudi Arabia, with the majority being PMIs working as caregivers and factory workers.
"Formal PMIs who work in factories earn a salary of 28,590 NTD (equivalent to 14 million rupiah). Meanwhile, informal PMIs of household workers get around 20,000 NTD (equivalent to 10 million rupiah)."
"Every month, four to six thousand PMIs only come to Taiwan. These migrant workers also send money to their families in Indonesia every month. Remittances from Taiwan to Indonesia reach more than 40 trillion rupiah per year," said Arif.
Please note, BRI Taipei Branch itself has obtained an operational permit as a Full Retail Foreign Bank Branch Office License from the Taiwanese authorities since 2021. With this license, this branch can provide various banking services, including deposits, loans, remittances, trade finance, and treasury.
Over time, BRI Taipei Branch continues to develop its services. In the future, there will be two new products to provide convenience and wider choices for customers.
The first is BRImo Taiwan, which will become a super app for banks and allow customers to make various transactions (including remittances to Indonesia) easily, anytime, and anywhere.
Second, BRI Taipei Future Saving, a futures savings program in Taiwan's new dollar currency (NTD) with an installation saving scheme within a period of 12, 24, or 36 months.
The service development in Taiwan complements BRI's presence in various countries through international office networks. To date, BRI has listed several offices spread across several countries.
The branch offices include BRI New York Agency (BRINYA), BRI Singapore Branch (BRIG), BRI Hong Kong Representative Office (BRI HKRO), and BRI Timor Leste Branch (BRITL), and BRI Cayman Island Branch (BRICIB). (ADV)
