JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works (PU) is accelerating the completion of residential infrastructure development in the Tanjung Banun area, Batam City, Riau Islands.

The Tanjung Banun Residential Area is being developed on 36.77 hectares (ha) of land through a multi-year contract (MYC) worth Rp 164.77 billion.

Work has been underway since December 2024, with physical progress currently reaching 45.23 percent. This infrastructure development is targeted for completion in September 2025.

The Tanjung Banun Residential Area is a National Strategic Project (PSN) developed collaboratively by the Ministry of Public Works, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP), the Ministry of Transmigration, and the Batam Business Agency (BP Batam).

This area is designed as a new, integrated and productive settlement, a region where existing land is still dominated by plantations, shrimp ponds, livestock farms, and two main neighborhood centers: Kampung Melayu Tanjung Banun and Kuala Buluh.

The Ministry of Public Works is tasked with preparing land for housing plots, which includes earthworks and geosynthetics; granular pavement; asphalt; structures; drinking water and sanitation systems; construction of sub-health centers; green space and environmental development; and reforestation of reserve land.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Transmigration will build Type 45 houses and their utilities on the prepared land.

The target for land readiness for housing plots in the Tanjung Banun Residential Area is 150 plots by the end of June 2025, 250 plots by the end of July 2025, and 350 plots by the end of August.

"Through this project, the government is not only providing basic infrastructure, but is also committed to creating livable, resilient areas that can promote economic and social equality, particularly in coastal and border areas," said Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo, as quoted in a written statement on Monday, August 4.
