JAKARTA - Deputy Minister of Agriculture (Wamentan) Sudaryono invites livestock businesses in Indonesia to utilize cow waste into renewable energy.

The Deputy Minister when reviewing the biogas facility owned by PT Greenfields Dairy Indonesia, in Blitar, East Java, as stated in Jakarta, Saturday, August 2, said that cow's droppings or lethargics that have been considered problems can be processed into a source of clean energy and have added value.

Limbah letong (coal impurity) has become an old problem. Alhamdulillah, today the Greenfields waste treatment facility has been completed. With fermented and processed, this waste can be a biogas used for power plants and household needs," said Wamentan, quoted by Antara.

Deputy Minister Sudaryono or who is familiarly called Mas Dar said that the biogas facility owned by PT Greenfields Dairy Indonesia is the largest in the dairy farm sector in Indonesia, with a capacity of 12,000 cubic meters.

He said waste from about 10,000 cows can be processed every day. In addition to producing gas, waste is also processed into fertilizer and cage materials that have a selling value.

"Limbah is not only a biogas, but also a fertilizer and cage material that has economic value," said Mas Dar.

According to him, it is part of a more modern and sustainable agricultural transformation. He hopes that models like Greenfields can be replicated in many regions.

"I hope this can be an example for other livestock businesses throughout Indonesia. Let's continue to collaborate and innovate for the sake of agriculture that is efficient, competitive, and sustainable for food security and national energy," he said again.

Not only about the environment and energy, Mas Dar also mentioned the importance of the local dairy industry to support the Free Nutrition Food (MBG) program which is intended for 82.9 million students throughout Indonesia.

Mas Dar emphasized that domestic milk production must be boosted so that it does not continue to depend on imports.

"Susu will become a large growing market, and what we have to make sure is that the milk that children consume is local products, not imports," he asserted.

He also encouraged a close partnership between people's breeders and the dairy processing industry.

Greenfields sudah membuktikan kemitraannya dengan masyarakat di Blitar, Malang, dan Pasuruan. Jika konsumsi milk naik, produksi juga akan meningkat, katanya lagi.

Director General of Animal Husbandry and Animal Health of the Ministry of Agriculture Agung Suganda assessed that the management of livestock waste that is integrated with renewable energy development is in line with the direction of sustainable, environmentally friendly livestock development policies.

"We really support initiatives like this, because it not only overcomes waste problems, but also contributes to national energy resilience. This is part of a transitional effort towards a plant that is green, modern, and has high economic value," said Agung.

CEO of Greenfields Indonesia Akhil Chandra said his party's commitment to continue to develop milk production responsibly towards the environment.

"This biogas facility further strengthens our commitment to sustainability, utilizes dairy farm waste into renewable energy, and provides added value for the environment and the surrounding community," said Akhil.
