Encourage Carbon Exchange Education, IDX Targets Transactions To Reach 3 Million Tons By 2025

PT Bursa Efek Indonesia (IDX) targets the number of service users on the Indonesia Carbon Exchange (IDXCarbon) to reach 150 users, with a total transaction volume of 3 million tons equivalent to carbon dioxide (CO2e) by the end of 2025.

"Of course, our current target is that we can trade up to 3 million tons. As for the service users, our target was approximately 150," said IDX President Director Iman Rachman to the media crew, Tuesday, July 15.

Iman explained that one of the main challenges in developing the carbon market is the lack of understanding from potential users.

Therefore, the IDX together with the Financial Services Authority (OJK) continues to intensify education and socialization where one of these efforts is realized through the launch of the book "Recognizing and Understanding Carbon Trading for the Financial Services Sector".

"Our current challenge is actually socialization to service users. That's why we also continue to socialize. With the launch of this book, it's easier for people to download, right. You don't need to ask. So, our homework is socialization and education," he said.

Since its launch on September 26, 2023 to July 11, 2025, IDX Carbon has recorded a total transaction volume of 1,599,326 tons of CO2e, with a trade value of IDR 77.95 billion.

As for this amount, as many as 980,475 tons of CO2e have been registered or used as compensation for emissions.

In addition, to date, IDX Carbon has involved 113 service users and recorded a total of 3,054,454 tons of CO2e Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction Certificate (SPE-GHG), or about 97 percent of the total units registered in the National Registribution System for Climate Change Control (SRN-PPI).

Then, as many as eight projects have been officially registered with IDX Carbon, covering strategic sectors such as renewable energy, waste management, and utilizing palm oil mill liquid waste (Palm Oil Mill Effluent/POME) for biogas production.
