JAKARTA - The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) is trying to make fishery ports a vital national object (Obvitnas).

The plan is for fishing ports not only to become a place for ship docking and loading and unloading of fish caught, but as the spearhead of the economy and national security.

"The fishing port is a fisheries storefront. When we talked about fishing ports, we talked about economic stability, natural resource security and national security," said Acting Director General of Capture Fisheries of the KKP Lotharia Latif in his official statement, quoted Monday, June 30.

According to Latif, the complexity and strategic value of fishery ports presents the risk of security disturbances, both technical, social and criminal. Therefore, the Directorate General of Capture Fisheries of the KKP initiated the determination of the fishery port as Obvitnas.

Director of Fisheries Port of the Directorate General of Capture Fisheries, Ady Candra, said that the determination of fishery ports as Obvitnas can provide certainty of state protection against port operations from potential disruption and sabotage.

He said his party had held a socialization of the Obvitnas security management system in Jakarta a few days ago.

"The security system will be integrated in protecting state assets and investments that also contribute to the implementation of measurable fishing programs and post-production PNBP," he said.

Meanwhile, Director of Security for Vital Objects of Korsabhara Baharkam Polri Brigadier General Pol Suhendri revealed that currently no fishery port in Indonesia has been designated as Obvitnas.

Therefore, his party appreciates the initiation of the KKP, including preparing the determination of the fishery port as Obvitnas through the preparation of the Decree of the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (Kepmen KP) with assistance from the Directorate of Security of Vital Objects (Ditpamobvit) of the National Police in drafting documents and certification of security management systems.

As for May 2025, the KKP in collaboration with the National Police Professional Certification Institute (LSP) has held internal training and certification of the Obvitnas security management system (SMP) auditor and certain objects attended by seven officers from the Directorate General of Capture Fisheries.
