JAKARTA - The Sido Muncul Factory, Bergas, Semarang Regency, is one of the venues to commemorate National Herbal Medicine Day, on Tuesday, June 3.
Present at the event were the Director of PT Industri and Pharmacy Sido Muncul Tbk, Irwan Hidayat, Head of the Semarang POM Center Lintang Purba Jaya, and the Executive Director of the Central Java Herbal Medicine GP Stefanus Handoyo Saputro.
At that moment, Sido Muncul invited 100 herbal medicine traders from Semarang and Yogyakarta. The herbal medicine traders were invited to go around to see firsthand the production process for various herbal products that had been packaged modernly by Sido Muncul.
Irwan Hidayat said the momentum of National Herbal Medicine Day could not be separated from the figure of President of SBY who had designated May 27 as National Herbal Medicine Day in 2008.
"We herbal entrepreneurs to herbal medicine sellers express our gratitude to Mr. SBY who set National Herbal Medicine Day because now the herbal medicine has received world recognition from UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage on December 6, 2023," said Irwan.
The world's recognition of herbal medicine, said Irwan, is not just an award, but a mandate to continue to maintain and develop herbal medicine so that it will continue to be sustainable in the future.
According to him, herbal medicine is the future of a healthy nation, so the struggle is carried out through scientific research and preservation of the tradition of drinking herbal medicine which is familiar with the community.
"We believe herbal medicine is not only a cure from nature, but also value, togetherness and identity. We want the younger generation to see herbal medicine as not something old, but a proud lifestyle," he added.
On this occasion, Irwan also invited herbal medicine traders to continue to innovate.
He gave an example of Sido Muncul's move to now produce herbal medicine in the form of soft capsules and ready to drink, such as Tolak Angin Soft Capsule and Jamu Lifestyle, in order to attract more practical interest from the younger generation.

More than just a tradition, herbal medicine has now been recognized by the world. The Home Health Culture (Jamu Wellness Culture) officially entered as an Unobstacle Cultural Heritage (WBTb) by UNESCO at the end of 2023, making it the 13th WBTb from Indonesia which is registered internationally.
"We want the herbal medicine to continue. Not only in bottles, but also in the hearts of the Indonesian people," said Irwan.
Jamu traders, including herbal medicine, said Irwan, have also spearheaded the preservation of herbal medicine culture.
These herbal medicine traders are cultural fighters. Without them, herbal medicine will not be known as widely as it is now," said Irwan.
