Up 16 Percent, KAI Retail Transport Volume Reaches 97,889 Tons

JAKARTA - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) or KAI recorded an increase in performance in retail transportation commodities such as package delivery goods (BHP) and Parcel.

From January to May 2025, the total volume transported reached 97,889 tons.

This achievement increased 16 percent compared to the January to May 2024 period which was recorded at only 84,391 tons.

KAI Vice President Public Relations Anne Purba said this upward trend reflects the wider use of rail-based retail services, especially by micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), as well as the general public who rely on inter-regional shipments in their daily economic activities.

Especially in May 2025, KAI recorded retail transportation of 19,567 tons, up 34 percent compared to the previous year's May achievement of 17,737 tons.

This increase is allegedly driven by the mobility of packages ahead of holidays, MSME commercial activities.

"And the wider awareness of the public and expedition players in using integrated logistics modes," he said.

As a mode of transportation, trains have advantages in delivery efficiency, stability of travel time, and large transport capacity.

This makes KAI services ideal for large shipping needs with predictable schedules, unaffected by traffic conditions.

Currently, KAI retail delivery services have reached dozens of cities and regencies on the island of Java and parts of Sumatra.

MSMEs in remote areas can now also send their products with national coverage.

This rail-based logistics ecosystem helps open a wider market and bring producers closer to consumers, he said.

In addition to encouraging the people's economy, rail retail transportation also contributes to sustainability. The rail mode produces lower carbon emissions than road-based land transportation, so that it is more environmentally friendly and supports the Net Zero Emission 2060 agenda launched by the government.
