Sri Mulyani said that this decision was taken after a joint meeting with related ministers was held.

He explained that the budgeting process for the policy could not be completed on time, so the implementation was not possible.

"We have had a meeting between the Ministers and for the implementation of discounted electricity rates, it turns out that the budgeting process is much slower, so if we aim to be in June and July, we decide that it cannot be carried out. So that it is replaced (for) wage subsidy assistance," he explained at the Economic Stimulus Press Conference, Monday, June 2.

Previously, the government planned to return to provide a 50 percent discount on electricity rates to around 79.3 million households with electricity up to 1,300 VA.

Meanwhile, a similar scheme was previously implemented in January 2025 and this program is planned to take place from June to July 2025.

He added that instead the Government decided to shift it to wage subsidy assistance (BSU).

Sri Mulyani explained that this wage subsidy assistance refers to a scheme that had been implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic where at that time, data on workers from BPJS Ketenagakerjaan and DTSN still needed to be cleaned. However, currently BPJS Ketenagakerjaan data has been validated and is ready to be used.

"It is true that the workers under (paid) are Rp. 3.5 million and are ready, so we decide with data readiness, program speed, targeting wage subsidy assistance," he said.

He conveyed that without the implementation of the electricity tariff discount, the government decided to launch only five economic stimulus programs.

According to him, this step was taken in response to the increasing risks and potential for weakening the national economy due to global pressure.

Sri Mulyani also added that President Prabowo Subianto had decided to provide a stimulus package to maintain the momentum of economic growth and strengthen national economic stability
