JAKARTA Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Andi Amran Sulaiman held a recitation and prayer with dozens of orphans and Hafidz Al-Qur'an at his residence today, as a form of gratitude for the great success in strengthening national food security.
Based on the latest data, the total government's rice reserves reached 4,001,279 tons. Of this amount, 2,407,257 tons were the result of local rice absorption by Bulog, the highest figure in history since the institution was founded in 1969.
"Combination from budget refocusing, production facilities (behh, fertilizer, alsintan), irrigation, pumping, and modern technology is the key to the success of high national rice production achievements in 2025," he said in his statement, Friday, May 30.
According to him, this achievement is in line with Bulog's extraordinary performance which recorded the highest absorption record in the last 57 years. By the end of May 2025, Bulog had absorbed more than 2.4 million tons of local rice, an increase of more than 400 percent compared to the average absorption in the same period in the last five years which was only in the range of 1.2 million tons.
"Currently, Bulog has rented a warehouse of 1.4 million tons and it is almost full. In the past, it wasn't full," said Amran.
For Amran, the acquisition of 4 million tons is not the end, but the beginning of a big step towards sustainable food independence.
According to him, this success cannot be separated from President Prabowo Subianto's policy which has issued Presidential Instruction (Inpres), reform of fertilizer distribution to strengthening the role of agricultural instructors.

All of these policies are directed to strengthen production while improving the welfare of farmers.
"President Prabowo ordered that farmers' welfare be properly monitored. Every government policy must be in favor of farmers," he said.
This joint recitation and prayer event is also filled with reading the holy verses of the Qur'an by hafidz, compensation to orphans, as well as prayers for Indonesia's future agricultural blessings.
"Hopefully with the prayers of orphans and hafidz, we will be given the strength to continue to protect the nation's food. Because food sovereignty is not only a target, but a mandate from Allah SWT that must be maintained together," said Amran.
