JAYAPURA - Steam Power Plant (PLTU) Holtekamp is ready to be part of a cleaner, more sustainable, and inclusive energy solution in the Land of Papua through the application of the biomass cofiring method using woodchip.
Senior Supervisor of PLTU Holtekam Operation Nanang Eka Saputra told Antara in Jayapura, Saturday, that cofiring biomass had a very positive impact on people's lives from an environmental and social perspective.
"From an environmental perspective, the use of biomass as a mixture of coal is very helpful in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, especially in CO2 because biomass is considered a more neutral source of energy," he said.
According to Nanang, this is of course in line with his commitment to support the energy transition program and nett zero emissions 2060.

"Then from a social point of view, the implementation of cofiring opens up opportunities for a new economy in the Land of Papua, especially in communities around the Holtekamp PLTU," he said.
He explained that the process started from collecting, processing, distributing woodchip biomass, to agriculture and forestry biomass that had gone through community groups to help create new jobs and drive local economies.
"We are still in the early stages of implementing cofiring biomass with the type of woodchip but it will gradually continue to be improved," he said.
He added that in the future it will gradually continue to make improvements so as to find encouraging and good progress, where now his party has conducted trials using the woodchip biomass on this PLTU.
"The percentage of cofiring is around 15-20 percent, where in the medium term we are targeting to reach 35 percent of the biomass mix in accordance with the direction from the center," he said again.
