JAKARTA - Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita held a bilateral meeting with the Vice President (Wapres) as well as the Minister of Development, Industry, Trade and Services for Brazil Geraldo Alfmin, recently.

The two countries have consistently strengthened comprehensive cooperation in various sectors to support economic growth. Indonesia and Brazil have a long history of diplomatic relations that have existed since 1953.

"Brazil is Indonesia's strategic partner in the Latin American region. The increase in Indonesia's export value to Brazil by 9.31 percent in 2024, is one of the positive indicators for the potential for cooperation that can continue to be developed," Agus said as quoted from his official statement, Friday, May 23.

In the future, Agus said, strengthening cooperation will be focused on strategic sectors that have a direct impact on economic growth of the two countries, such as the development of vegetable-based renewable energy, maritime and aerospace industries, processing of fishery and livestock products and agribusiness products.

"This cooperation is in line with the aspirations of President Prabowo Subianto to expand the reach of international cooperation in order to strengthen national economic resilience," he said.

In addition to strengthening bilateral relations, Indonesia and Brazil also have a harmonious commitment in various multilateral forums, such as Group of Twenty (G20), the World Trade Organization (WTO), the United Nations (UN) and BRICCS. Both countries are active in encouraging a fair multilateral trading system and supporting the achievement of sustainable development goals (SDGs).

Agus believes that the two countries have the potential to make a greater contribution in promoting global stability, promoting sustainable growth and ensuring the welfare of the people of each country.

In addition to attending a meeting with delegates from the Minister of Industry of BRICS and a bilateral meeting with Vice President Geraldo, Agus is also scheduled to attend a number of agendas in a series of BRICS activities, namely a bilateral meeting with Deputy Minister of Industry and Information Technology Xiong Jijun and Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Aleksei Vladimirovich Gruzdev.

Through this series of activities, Agus hopes that later it can strengthen Indonesia's contribution in encouraging the growth of the global inclusive, green and sustainable industry.

"Open dialogue and mutually beneficial cooperation will strengthen Indonesia's position as a strategic partner in the global industry and build bridges of understanding between the people of the two countries," he concluded.
