JAKARTA - The Minister of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia (Mendag RI) Budi Santoso emphasized that the government will act decisively by imposing severe sanctions on illegal importers.

"Companies can be closed, license revoked and cannot carry out similar activities," said Budi in Tangerang Regency, Banten, quoted by Antara, Thursday, May 22.

He said decisive action needs to be taken to protect and protect domestic industries and consumers due to the impact of the existence of these illegal imported goods.

"For illegal goods or without permits or procedures specified but goods are already in circulation, companies must withdraw," he said.

He revealed that as a form of the government's commitment to taking action against business actors importing goods, his party is currently conducting ongoing and continuous supervision with other relevant agencies.

"We routinely, together with institutions and the community, continue to monitor items that are suspected of violating trade regulations," he said.

In addition, he continued, the Ministry of Trade is also monitoring all ports or airports where imported goods are imported from abroad.

This is done to anticipate the existence of rogue importers who will commit trade violations.

"Right now, the number of violations is starting to decrease, but sometimes we let them appear again a little. So, we take action more often," he said.

In this case, his party has succeeded in taking action and securing as many as 1.6 million imported goods that are not in accordance with the provisions or imports from China.

Of the millions of illegal imported goods, this type of equipment, electronics, clothing and steel can be added up to IDR 18.8 billion.

"These items were imported from China by companies that were allegedly not in accordance with applicable regulations regarding import regulations," he said.

"For imported goods, this violates regulations such as no SNI, does not have a registration number for goods, does not use an Indonesian language label, does not have a manual / warranty card and does not have a health number, safety and environmental security and does not have an import document for goods," he added.

As for the illegal imported goods that were secured, including 68,265 pcs of electric MCB, 9,763 pcs of gerinda/saw/electric shock machinery, 26 units of dust suctioner, 600,000 pcs of gloves, 77 pcs of scissors.

Then, 66 pcs of ax goods, 578 pcs of iron ruler, bolts and nuts of various sizes as much as 997,296 pcs, 9,215 pcs of tackle.

Furthermore, as a follow-up to the handling of illegal imported goods, his party will conduct an in-depth investigation regarding importers to immediately complete documents according to applicable regulations.
