JAKARTA - The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) has sent representatives of delegates to attend the Seafood Expo Global (SEG) event in Barcelona, Spain, on May 6-8, 2025.

The Director General of Strengthening the Competitiveness of Marine and Fishery Products (PDSPKP) KKP Tornanda Syaifullah said that there was an increase in global demand for Indonesian tuna, skipjack and tuna (TCT).

"The main importers we met were from the UK, United Arab Emirates, European Union, United States (US), which at that time expressed high interest in buying Indonesian tuna from pole and line," Tornanda said at a press conference at his office, Wednesday, May 21.

Tornanda said that there were a number of requirements given by the importers, such as meeting the standards of sustainability, tracing, and branding environmentally friendly products.

"The general requirements submitted include that the standards of sustainability, tracing, certification, inspection, and branding of environmentally friendly products," he said.

In addition, Tornanda said, a number of importers also offer technology support and collaboration plans, such as the development of stelina and digital logbooks.

"Well, we are trying to build a national fish tracing system or stelina which I hope all stakeholders will later, whether from upstream to downstream, can access stelina," he said.

"So that later after stelina is inputted and this can guarantee that all of our fish products can be traced and their quality can be guaranteed," he concluded.

The SEG this year was attended by more than 30,000 people consisting of 2,180 exhibition company companies from 91 countries over three days to discuss the latest food trends and innovations and explore future solutions to answer the main challenges facing this sector.

It said industry leaders from the UK, Switzerland, Germany, Netherlands, Italy, UAE and Spain were interested in Indonesia's pole-and-line tuna industry and joined talks discussing future support and investment in the industry.
