JAKARTA The Kuwait Foreign Petroleum Exploration Company, (KUFPEC) through its subsidiary, KUFPEC Indonesia (Anambas) BV has obtained official approval from the Government of Indonesia for the Plan of Development (POD) of Anambas Square, which is located off the coast of the West Natuna Sea, Indonesia.

The POD approval was given by the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources on April 25, 2025. This achievement marks an important success in terms of regulation and is a crucial step towards the final investment decision (FID) of this project.

The field is in Natuna Basin which is rich in resources, and is the main asset in the KUFPEC portfolio in Southeast Asia.

The approved POD describes a gradual strategy to unlock the potential of the gas and condensate of the field.

This field is planned to be available online in 2028 with an estimated gas production of around 55 MMSCFD with development investments reaching around 1.54 billion US dollars or around Rp. 24.8 trillion.

Head of SKK Migas Djoko Siswanto said the POD approval showed support from the Government so that the block could be produced immediately to strengthen the national gas balance and support the energy security program.

"We will encourage KUFPEC to be able to realize so that the project can be streamed optimally in the fourth quarter of 2027 and acceleration efforts will be made so that it can be onstream faster than the set target time," said Djoko, Thursday, May 15.

Djoko further said that the approval of the Anambas POD is proof that investment in Indonesia is not only jargon but a clear proof of the existence of this field development.

Investment in projects that reached 1.5 billion US dollars or around Rp 24.8 trillion investment by KUFPEC shows that the upstream oil and gas sector in Indonesia is still very attractive to domestic and foreign companies, including KUFPEC as a large oil and gas company in Middle East.

KUFPEC CEO, Eisa Al Maraghi, stated that this achievement confirms the company's ongoing commitment to long-term investment in the upstream Indonesian oil and gas sector.

"We express our appreciation for the close cooperation with SKK Migas, the Directorate General of Oil and Gas (MIGAS), the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, and the Government of Indonesia in encouraging the progress of this important project," he said.

This field development includes drilling production wells from the head well platform, installing underwater pipes to distribute Anambas gas to existing facilities in the West Natuna Transportation System (West Natuna Transportation System).

After starting production, this field is expected to be able to channel gas to the domestic and regional markets, support Indonesia's energy security, and encourage economic growth.

KUFPEC is an international upstream company engaged in crude oil exploration, development and production outside the Kuwaiti State region, and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Kuwait Petroleum Corporation.
