JAKARTA - The Provincial Government (Pemprov) of DKI Jakarta, Friday, May 2, held an International Labor Day celebration or May Day 2025 at the Sunter Sports Stadium, Sunter Jaya, Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta.

The activity was attended by Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Rano Karno, Mayor of North Jakarta Ali Maulana Hakim, Head of the DKI Jakarta BPJS Ketenagakerjaan Regional Office, Deny Yusyulian, and Head of the BPJS Ketenagakerjaan Branch Office from the North Jakarta area.

This May Day Celebration activity also involved 16 federations and labor organizations with around 1,500 participants. In addition to speeches, the event is also filled with various entertainment and door prizes, distribution of basic necessities and compensation from BPJS Ketenagakerjaan.

"This year's commemoration theme knits togetherness to improve workers' welfare and national productivity, with the spirit of May Day is The Collaboration Day," said Rano Karno.

Rano hopes that the collaboration between local governments and employers and workers can strengthen the existence of a tripartite that has been well established to build Jakarta.

"The DKI Provincial Government is here to maintain social security networks through various programs," said Rano.

Some of the social security programs carried out by the DKI Provincial Government at this time, Rano explained, among other things, are trying to create as many jobs as possible in order to anticipate the high unemployment rate.

Head of the DKI Jakarta BPJS Ketenagakerjaan Regional Office, Deny Yusyulian, said that his party through collaboration with the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government always tries to provide opportunities for workers in Jakarta to get much better protection. Related to this, at this event we provided 3455 food packages that we distributed to 5 areas of Jakarta.

In addition, we also provide death suspects to 2 people each to PPSU who died with a value of Rp. 281 million and scholarships for 1 child to higher education as well as vocational teachers who died worth Rp. 135 million along with student duties.

Deny further said that his party had also conveyed universal coverage developments in DKI Jakarta to the Governor of DKI Jakarta, Pramono Anung.

"We have an audience with the governor in order to convey the universal coverage development in Jakarta, which currently has reached 52%. However, this has not yet reached the universal coverage target of the Central Government through the Ministry of Home Affairs of 66 percent", he said.

Regarding efforts to increase the achievement of universal coverage targets in Jakarta so that according to the Central Government's target, we convey that there needs to be an initiative that needs to be assisted by the Governor because the governor's regulations already exist and the memorandum of understanding of synergy already exists, so it's just a matter of execution from the 2 regulations.

Deny added to the Governor that all traders in 155 markets managed by Perumda Pasar Jaya are protected by the benefits of the BPJS Employment program and this is required through a direct circular from Perumda Pasar Jaya.

Then the same obligation also needs to be encouraged by Jakpreaneur participants whose Circular letter can be issued through the Head of the Cooperatives and MSMEs Service. In addition, we also ask for support from the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to encourage compliance with employers and business entities through the Manpower Service and the PTSP Service.

"Through the participation of traders in Pasar Jaya and Jakprenuer participants, we believe that the universal coverage target in Jakarta can be achieved if we are both serious about implementing it. This is because the potential for new participation from the two entities reaches 600 thousand new participants," he explained.

Meanwhile, Head of the BPJS Ketenagakerjaan Jakarta Kelapa Gading Branch Office, Ivan Sahat H Pandjaitan, conveyed that the main goal of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan is not only to provide social assistance, but also to ensure workers have long-term protection through Employment Social Security programs.

"What's even more special is this International Labor Day, we together with the North Jakarta Administration City Government collaborate to ensure all workers are protected," he said.

The collaboration in question includes the unification of potential BPJS Employment participant data, as well as education to workers and employers regarding the importance of labor social protection.

Ivan said this step was part of efforts to achieve the scope of the universal coverage in North Jakarta.

"We put together the potential data for BPJS Employment participants, then together we seek the acquisition of workers who have not been protected by an educational approach," explained Ivan.

He considered this step important to ensure that no workers escaped social security protection. Apart from the government, Ivan also invited trade unions and labor unions to play an active role as supervisory partners. According to him, the union has a strategic position to help monitor its membership.

"We believe the union is more accurate in carrying out its control functions against its members to ascertain which workers are not registered or protected by the BPJS Employment program," Ivan explained.

Ivan hopes that through a sustainable collaboration between BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, local governments, and trade unions, North Jakarta can immediately realize equitable employment protection for all workers.

"With the collaboration that continues to be built, we are optimistic that universal coverage for workers in North Jakarta can be realized. This is important in order to create prosperity and comprehensive protection for all workers," said Ivan.
