JAKARTA - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that the number of foreign tourist visits (tourists) to the country in March 2025 reached 841,030 visits or decreased by 2.18 percent on a monthly basis and 5.63 percent on an annual basis.
Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics Agency (BPS), Pudji Ismartini, said that foreign tourist visits to Indonesia through the main entrances which include international airports, international ports, and cross-border posts.
"In March 2025, foreign tourists visiting through the main entrance were 841,030 visits or decreased by 2.18 percent on a monthly basis and 5.63 percent on an annual basis," he said at a press conference, Friday, May 2.
Pudji explained that despite the decline in March 2025, the total number of foreign tourist visits from January to March 2025 reached 2,735,472 visits, an increase of 7.83 percent compared to the same period in 2024.
On the other hand, the average expenditure of foreign tourists during visiting in the first quarter of 2025 decreased where the average expenditure was recorded at 1,277.17 US dollars or around Rp. 21.07 million (at an exchange rate of Rp. 16,500), down compared to the first quarter of 2024 which amounted to 1,429.40 US dollars.
"The average length of foreign tourists living in the first quarter of 2025 is 10.94 nights. Based on the type of expenditure, the largest proportion of foreign tourists spending is allocated for accommodation, which is 38.07 percent, followed by spending on food and drink 19.40 percent, and spending and souvenirs 11.90 percent," he explained.
Meanwhile, the number of trips by domestic tourists (wisnus) or Indonesian residents in March 2025 reached 88.91 million trips, down 1.76 percent compared to February 2025 which reached 90.50 million trips.
"Meanwhile, compared to March 2024, Wisnus' trip in March 2025 increased by 12.61 percent YOY. Furthermore, cumulatively, from January to March 2025, the number of Wisnus trips reached 282.41 million trips, an increase of 12.71 percent compared to the same period last year," he explained.
Pudji explained that of the total Wisnus trips in March 2025, 66.08 percent were carried out to Java Island, with three main destination provinces, namely East Java, West Java, and Central Java.
