JAKARTA - Minister of Manpower (Menaker) Yassierli assessed that a thorough transformation is needed that touches on fundamental aspects to overcome various issues related to occupational safety and health (K3) in Indonesia.
"We have problems related to the labor inspector. All of his recommendations say that it should attract supervision to the center, even though it is not simple. It takes great effort and not necessarily the supervisors are willing. This is a challenge in itself," said the Minister of Manpower as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday.
Yassierli added that there is still a lot of homework in the K3 issue, one of which concerns the quality of practitioners.
According to him, many of the practitioners who come from short-term training do not yet have an adequate understanding of the philosophy of work accidents, K3 management systems, and psychological aspects that affect safety in the workplace.
Therefore, Yassierli argues, the K3 problem in Indonesia cannot be solved only through a ceremonial or normative approach.
Several comprehensive transformations, he continued, are needed in several related aspects such as the supervisory system, law enforcement, and work culture that upholds safety.
He also highlighted the weakness of law enforcement and the low concern for K3 in various sectors.
Therefore, he is looking forward to ideas and recommendations from relevant stakeholders such as the Indonesia Network of OSH Professionals (INOSHPRO), which can encourage real transformation in the field of K3.
"What is needed is something more concrete. We are waiting for ideas and recommendations. We want impactful transformation," said Yassierli.

He also encouraged INNASHPRO to formulate a K3 strategy, which has a more real impact on facing the challenges of today's employment.
"Requesting INNASHPRO support to jointly strengthen the stronger and more competitive K3 ecosystem," said the Minister of Manpower.
