JAKARTA - PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG) affirms its commitment to supporting the government in realizing food security, one of which is through the planting of biosalin 2 rice varieties which was successfully implemented by PT Solusi Bangun Indonesia Tbk as a subsidiary of SIG with the Cilacap Regency Government (Pemkab) and local farmers. The success of the Padi Variety Biosalin 2 planting program was marked by an initial harvest of 18.68 tons on Thursday, April 17.

The planting of biosalin 2 rice varieties is a Planting Seasonal Research (MT) 1 Demplot Padi Varietas Biosalin 2 program to test the resilience of biosalin 2 rice varieties on coastal rice fields that are affected by sea water intrusion (water seepage to the ground). Padi biosalin 2 itself is a variety developed to have marine water resistance. This program started in January 2025 on an area of 0.5 ha belonging to the Main Work II Farmers Group in Ujungmanik Village, Kawunganten District, Cilacap, Central Java.

In its implementation, programs involving 10 farmers were carried out using 3 methods, namely traditional local farmers' methods, the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) method, and the Gadjah Mada University Professor Gembong Soetoto Tjitrosoepomo Professor's methods of Professor of Planting Science (Botani). Each method is applied to an area of 1,500 m2 with 25 kilograms (kg) of seeds.

SIG Corporate Secretary, Vita Mahreyni said, the collaboration between Solusi Bangun Indonesia, the Cilacap Factory together with the Cilacap Regency Government and this farmer group is a collective effort to realize sustainable agriculture in Indonesia. Especially in increasing agricultural productivity in suboptimal land (low productivity) and coastal areas that have high salinity (soluble salt content levels in the ground due to sea water seepage).

Vita Mahreyni added, in addition to providing seed assistance, the Company also provides intensive assistance to farmers by involving experts from groups of academics and related institutions. This is one of the keys to success in the implementation of the biosalin 2 variety rice planting program.

"This success is a real contribution of SIG Group in encouraging food security in Indonesia and a form of support for Asta Cita Presiden Prabowo in encouraging the nation's independence through food self-sufficiency. The company is ready to collaborate with local governments to replicate this success in other areas," said Vita Mahreyni, in a written statement, Monday, April 21.

Representing the Regent of Cilacap, Head of the Cilacap Regency Development, Research and Innovation Planning Agency, Sujito in his speech expressed his appreciation to the Bangun Indonesia Solution Cilacap Factory for its collaboration in supporting the agricultural sector in Cilacap Regency. According to Sujito, the results of Biosalin 2 harvests are very satisfying both in terms of growth and production.

This Varietas will be replicated in Cilacap Regency, especially for 2,569 hectares of rice fields affected by salt water and spread over 12 sub-districts, out of a total of 24 sub-districts in Cilacap Regency, with the same soil type character and conditions. The hope is that rice production will increase and the welfare of farmers will also be raised," said Sujito.

The biosalin 2 variety rice planting program was positively welcomed by farmers. One of the farmers involved in this program as well as the owner of the land used in the trial, Darman (60) said that biosalin 2 rice varieties provide new hope for farmers in his village. Darman and his colleagues admitted that they are more optimistic about running agriculture in the future.

We often face obstacles to salted land and drought caused by high salinity. With this rice, we are optimistic that the harvest will be better. Thank you SBI and GIS for caring and willing to help us," said Darman.
